Embracing a New Business Model for Community-based Pharmacy Practice

At the APhA Annual Meeting this year, I attended several continuing education programs about innovation and reimbursement for services. I also had the opportunity to talk with several of my colleagues about their practices. One particular conversation with a colleague who was just 5 years out from his graduation from pharmacy school summed up a repeating theme—we need a new business model for community-based pharmacy practice. This colleague worked for one of the national community pharmacies. He was looking to change his career path, as he was feeling burned out from his current position as pharmacy manager. He said he has only 5 hours of overlap of pharmacists’ time per week and that his technicians’ hours have been cut as well. CLICK HERE to read more.
